Business meets Research 2015: Discover Luxembourg Research Capabilities
Building bridges – such is the main objective of the Luxinnovation Forum “Business meets Research”. The main ambition is to build bridges between private companies and public research laboratories that could benefit from collaborating with each other in the field of research and innovation. For the first time ever, Business meets Research will offer participants the opportunity to visit research laboratories and see researchers demonstrate their latest projects, technologies and equipment in their everyday working environment. The 2015 edition of the event, which will take place on 21-22 May, will also build a bridge between Luxembourg City and the future City of Sciences in Esch-Belval and include sessions in both places.
Business meets Research participants will thus be welcomed on 21 May in the Maison du Savoir, the future home of the University of Luxembourg in Esch-Belval, for the traditional opening session. In addition to a speech by Secretary of State for Higher Education and Research Marc Hansen, they will have the opportunity to listen to Prof. Dr Gabriel Crean, future CEO of the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST). Prof. Dr Crean, who is involved in the European Commission’s Key Enabling Technologies (KET) High-Level Expert Group, will talk about KETs as drivers of competitiveness.
Meet researchers at work
The next part of the event will be thematic visits to research laboratories with a wide range of specialities. Participants will be able to participate in a maximum of two out of 12 thematic visits on a variety of topics: digital fabrication and manufacturing, systems biomedicine and ICT, environmental technologies, innovation in sustainable construction and opto-electronics, to mention but a few examples. Places at the visits are limited, so make sure you register on time!
Discover Fraunhofer IBMT mobile lab
In addition to Luxembourg laboratories, participants will be able to discover a mobile laboratory of renowned German Fraunhofer Institute for Biomedical Engineering (IBMT). The Fraunhofer IBMT has been operating a mobile BSL-2 unit for the German environmental specimen bank Environmental Specimen Bank (ESB) since 2013. This mobile laboratory will be presented to showcase a reference application for a mobile unit in the field of biobanking and epidemiology. Visitors can have hands-on experience in the operation of such a mobile laboratory and get some insight into the background of sample collection in the field of human biomonitoring. It will possible to visit the mobile laboratory - parked in front of the Massenoire in Esch-Belval – throughout the day on 21 May or to register for a guided tour at 14:00.
Find new partners
The second day of the Forum, 22 May, will be devoted to the Innovation Matchmaking where participants can request bilateral face-to-face meetings with representatives of participating companies and laboratories from Luxembourg and the Greater Region. Hosted at the Chamber of Commerce in Luxembourg City, the Innovation Matchmaking is the ideal meeting place for participants who are interested in finding new collaboration partners for their innovation projects.
