AIDEX: AI at the service of emergency training

Tuomi is revolutionising emergency service training through artificial intelligence, offering dynamic, realistic and personalised scenarios.

Founded in Trier (Germany) in 1995 and established in Mertert, Luxembourg, since 2005, Tuomi has been developing cutting-edge digital solutions for the medical sector, including mobile medical devices.

With its new product AIDEX, the company is taking the next step by introducing an AI-powered training platform designed for emergency services, rescue teams and civil protection organisations.

“Traditional training methods in emergency departments are often rigid and outdated,” explains Johannes Roos, the company’s Project Director. “They lack personalisation, fail to adapt to individual skill levels, and provide scenarios with limited diversity and realism.”

This is precisely why AIDEX was created: to place realistic simulation and personalisation at the heart of learning. The name itself carries a double meaning: AID + EX = Help + Exercise, symbolising assistance and life-saving practice, as well as AI + DEX = Artificial Intelligence + Digital Exercises/Simulations.

AI as a learning engine

AIDEX is an AI-driven application that enables the creation of highly customisable, interactive training scenarios for civil protection and disaster response. The platform uses artificial intelligence to simulate realistic emergency situations — such as floods, earthquakes, mass-casualty incidents and industrial accidents — featuring detailed patient profiles, dynamic event triggers and interactive maps.

The application supports both web and mobile platforms, enabling professional, volunteer and freelance trainers to conduct flexible sessions either in classrooms or directly in the field, at scale.

“This digital solution is designed to enhance the realism and readiness of training across organisations involved in emergency response, from fire services and police forces to medical teams and civil protection units,” summarises Arja Roos, Managing Director opt Tuomi. AIDEX automatically adjusts the difficulty of each exercise in real time, based on user performance. “With AI, everyone benefits from a personalised learning journey, one that challenges without discouraging.”

The scenarios are dynamically generated from current historical, operational, environmental and meteorological data, ensuring that each training session remains relevant and authentic.

The exercises reflect real intervention conditions, improving preparation, responsiveness and coordination within teams. “With an unlimited variety of scenarios, we eliminate monotony and boost participant engagement,” adds Arja Roos, who believes deeply in the human value of technological progress. “Artificial intelligence can strengthen collective intelligence. AIDEX is not just a tool — it’s a learning partner capable of transforming the operational preparedness of emergency services.”

Built on a tested and ready-to-deploy platform, Tuomi now aims to launch pilot projects with partner organisations before gradually expanding into both the B2B and B2C markets.
