Aquatechnic: Enhancing performance with Fit 4 Sustainability

The company has carried out an energy audit and a carbon footprint of greenhouse gas emissions in order to optimise its activity and make it more virtuous.

Aquatechnic is a company specialising in the fields of heating, sanitary, air conditioning, ventilation and "turnkey" bathrooms, founded in 1983 in Foetz. Based since 1989 in its current premises, it had pleasant and ergonomic offices that have been extended and refurbished several times since 1995, but which were not optimised in terms of climatic comfort. This was mainly due to the structure and insulation of the building.

In 2024, when the company, which has one hundred employees, had just celebrated its 40th anniversary, a renovation of the staff offices was planned in order to continue improving working conditions through a completely new layout, including floor-to-ceiling renovations and the replacement of office furniture. "At the same time, the time was right to invest in the production and use of renewable energy," says David Poveromo, executive assistant at Aquatechnic.

An in-depth environmental diagnosis with Fit 4 Sustainability

This situation led the company to join the Fit 4 Sustainability programme managed by Luxinnovation. This programme is aimed at all companies established in Luxembourg, regardless of their size or sector of activity. The principle is simple: the company benefits from the expertise of an external consultant, referenced by Luxinnovation, to carry out an in-depth environmental diagnosis such as an energy audit, carbon footprint, water balance or product life cycle analysis.

The added value of such an external stakeholder lies in its neutrality, its skills and any sector-specific expertise, as well as its ability to make the diagnosis objective.

The amount of aid awarded by the Ministry of the Economy for this diagnosis can reach up to 60% of consulting fees for large companies, 70% for medium-sized companies and 80% for small ones.

Energy audit and carbon footprint

In order to have a complete view of energy consumption and CO2 emissions and thus be able to plan investments in a comprehensive manner, Aquatechnic undertook an energy audit and a carbon footprint of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. For this, it called on the consulting firm Sustain.

Data collection focused on the various incoming energy consumption items as well as on the analysis of the building's design, operation and maintenance history. This diagnosis then led to the implementation of an action plan containing all possible investments as well as identified quick wins to reduce the company's GHG impact and its dependence on fossil fuels.

Luxinnovation: support at all stages

"These recommendations have been prioritised and validated by management and many of them have been put into practice. This included the installation of photovoltaic panels and an electric charging station," says Mr Poveromo.

"The case of Aquatechnic is a good illustration of Fit 4 Sustainability's approach: starting from a rigorous diagnosis to make informed investment decisions," says Emmanuelle Kipper, Senior Advisor - Assessments & Roadmaps at Luxinnovation. "What is important to us is that companies have a clear view of their environmental situation in order to act in a structured and sustainable way, with concrete support at every stage of the process."

The work is still in progress, and should lead to a reduction in greenhouse gas consumption and energy savings. The collaboration with Sustain and Luxinnovation is a long-term one. "At the various key stages, Luxinnovation has been at our side and has drawn our attention to the existing support measures for the different elements of the action plan," explains Mr Poveromo.
