Targeted support for the agrifood sector

Luxinnovation helps agrifood companies in Luxembourg access public aids, Fit 4 programmes and R&D funding through a new AI-powered online assistant.

Luxembourg offers a range of public aid and support programmes designed to strengthen the competitiveness and sustainability of its agrifood sector.

As part of a partnership between Luxinnovation, the Ministry of the Economy, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Viticulture, and with the backing of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a detailed catalogue has been created. This catalogue provides a comprehensive, though not exhaustive, overview of the wide array of support and aid designed to assist agrifood sector players in advancing their projects.

An AI-powered tool to find the right support

This resource is now complemented by an interactive online tool. This agrifood online assistant is a free AI-powered tool that helps companies identify relevant public aid based on their profile and project structure.

Powered by a Large Language Model (LLM), the tool enables users to quickly access a tailored list of aids based on:

  • the type of company (e.g. SME, large enterprise, active farmer)
  • the project's primary focus (e.g. innovation, digitalisation, export)
  • the desired type of support or subsidy (e.g. investment, external costs, operational expenses)

"In 2025, we supported approximately twenty companies in the sector through initiatives such as the Fit 4 programmes, applications for R&D and innovation funding, and the Digital Innovation Hub (DIH)," says Claude Hostert, Business Relationship Senior Advisor at Luxinnovation.

Domaine Alice Hartmann: digitalising vineyard management with Fit 4 Digital

One example of this support is Domaine Alice Hartmann, a wine and crémant producer based in Wormeldange along the Moselle. Since its acquisition in 1996, the company has consistently sought to remain at the forefront of the industry. In recent years, it embarked on a journey to enhance its digital maturity, aiming to optimise productivity and improve the customer experience.

The company had several objectives, including traceability for food safety purposes, exploring the implementation of an e-commerce solution, and digitising vineyard and cellar management. "Through the Fit 4 Digital programme, Domaine Alice Hartmann adopted a centralised management solution that streamlined numerous processes, such as delivery planning," explains Joseph Wesner, Managing Director of the company.

This digital tool now facilitates integrated order and invoicing management, accurate delivery tracking, and complete product traceability.

Fit 4 Digital is a performance programme managed by Luxinnovation that offers companies the opportunity to work with an experienced consultant. He evaluates their IT infrastructure as well as software and applications, and provide them a roadmap of proposed digital investments.

La Provençale: tackling CO2 emissions with Fit 4 Sustainability

Since its establishment in 1969, La Provençale has grown into a major player in wholesale food distribution. With over 1,700 employees and a fleet of refrigerated vehicles, the company has become a key distribution hub in the region, offering more than 40,000 products.

Recognising the urgency of environmental challenges, particularly climate change, La Provençale sought to align its operations with greenhouse gas reduction goals.

Using the Fit 4 Sustainability programme, the company conducted a strategic diagnosis of its carbon footprint. The analysis revealed that the supply chain accounted for over 97% of emissions and identified it as the primary area for intervention. Georges Eischen, Managing Partner of La Provençale, highlights the impact: "The expert’s analysis provided us with a clear roadmap, quantifying the return on investment and potential CO2 reductions for each action. These measures are designed to set our company on a low-carbon trajectory and enhance the sustainability of our operations."

Fit 4 Sustainability is a performance programme managed by Luxinnovation that offers companies the opportunity to work together with an experienced expert. He helps them analyse their environmental impact and develop a roadmap to enhance their sustainability.

Fitotech: securing R&D funding for indoor agriculture

Founded in 2023, Fitotech has developed an environmentally clean and efficient system with a minimal carbon footprint for producing healthy and affordable food. The company focuses on designing and manufacturing equipment for indoor plant cultivation using hydroponic systems. Its central aim is to create scalable, controlled growing environments that are independent of external climatic conditions.

As part of its research on optimising plant growth under various environmental parameters—such as light, humidity, air circulation, and nutrient supply—Fitotech applied for state aid to support a project integrating technology, agronomy, and design to develop practical solutions for modern urban agriculture. Vadim Gabel, CEO of Fitotech, states: "The professional communication with Luxinnovation throughout the application process, as well as during the project development and documentation phases, made the entire process much more structured and manageable."

The company successfully secured funding from the Ministry of the Economy and is now preparing for the next phase of expansion in its R&D programme.
