SCMM Industry Day 2025: Innovation in mobility & defence

The future of mobility is light, sustainable and interconnected – and Luxembourg is once again at the heart of this transformation. On Thursday 2 October 2025, the Sustainable Composite Materials & Manufacturing (SCMM) Innovation Centre at the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST) will host its second Industry Day at the Maison des Arts et des Étudiants in Belval (Esch-sur-Alzette).

This annual event – a key meeting point for the materials community – will bring together OEMs, prime contractors, tier suppliers, SMEs and research leaders.

Organised in partnership with Luxinnovation, SCMM Industry Day is where ideas meet action and collaboration sparks innovation.

Focus on civil–defence synergies

This year’s theme, “Sustainable and lightweight composite technologies: From civil to dual-use applications – How to bridge civil technologies with defence needs?” puts the spotlight on how civil and defence technologies  can be connected. As mobility sectors face increasing pressure to become cleaner, lighter and more efficient, the ability to develop dual-use solutions that serve both civilian and defence markets is becoming critical.

This event will provide a full day of keynote talks and expert panels featuring major aerospace and defence players and Tier-1 suppliers. Discussions will explore breakthrough technologies for improved sustainability and enhanced operability, as well as synergies between civil and defence mobility solutions.

Innovation on display

A highlight of the day will be the showcase of SCMM’s cutting-edge capabilities in sustainable and lightweight composite materials. Attendees will discover how SCMM’s research supports industry partners in developing next-generation mobility solutions – from zero-emission transport to high-performance composite structures for civil and defence vehicles.

The programme will also feature technology-focused sessions addressing land, air and space mobility, as well as the growing role of unmanned vehicles. These sessions aim to provide a platform for knowledge exchange, problem-solving and the creation of actionable pathways for implementation.
