Construction: inspire, exchange and anticipate with BIM&BAU

On 3 December, construction professionals will come together to discuss digitalisation and decarbonisation. Luxinnovation will also be there.

The 2026 edition of the BIM&BAU conference brings together construction players on 3 December at the European Convention Center Luxembourg. LIST, Neobuild, CRTI-B and Luxinnovation jointly organise the event, with the support of the Ordre des Architectes et des Ingénieurs-conseils (OAI) and the Chamber of Skilled Crafts. This edition forms part of the European Sustainable Places event.

Its aim is to share innovation on three key issues, digitalisation, decarbonisation and industrialisation, and to help sector players put them into practice.

A cross-cutting approach

BIM&BAU grew out of the merger of two flagship sector events, "BIMLUX" and "Sustainable construction for resilient cities", which now sit under one banner. The first unified meeting, held at the end of 2025, confirmed the value of this approach. "We have built a balanced programme, with sessions on digital technology alongside sessions on the latest advances in sustainable building and the resilient city. The feedback on how these two complementary themes intertwine and coexist has been excellent," confirms Sylvain Kubicki, research group leader for the Sustainable Urban and Built Environment (SUBE) group at LIST.

Verified contributions and feedback

This year, the conference focuses on the quality and reliability of its presentations. "The information shared during the day will be verified by experts: compliance with the standards and protocols cited, relevance and added value of the solutions proposed, and so on," insists Luc Meyer, director of GIE Neobuild.

The programme will also feature Luxembourg companies, which will share their experience of implementing innovative approaches and turning ideas into concrete projects.

From bio-based materials to off-site construction

The themes will cover:

  • Materials, with a focus on bio-based materials and their contribution to decarbonisation;
  • BIM and the digitalisation of the building industry;
  • Off-site construction.

Interventions will also address health in buildings, reducing the carbon footprint and alternative materials such as wood, straw, earth and sheep's wool.

Luxinnovation's contribution to off-site construction is significant. "We have just published a study on the potential of this approach in the Greater Region, which analyses its feasibility and the regulatory obstacles," says Perla El Boueiz, Senior advisor Business Relationships - Sustainable construction at Luxinnovation. "The ambition is to continue this work and create a hub dedicated to off-site construction at scale in the Greater Region. We will organise a workshop to explore how the avenues developed within this European project can be translated into concrete opportunities for local companies."

BIM&BAU aims to go beyond inspiration alone. "Our role is to take the next step and show how to move from innovation to standardisation, from idea to accepted, feasible and replicable solution," says Gilles Christnach, Director of CRTI-B. "We also want to reassure participants that they will be supported in a very concrete way on their way to their goal, because innovation and practice go hand in hand."

Meet Luxinnovation

The Luxinnovation teams will be on hand throughout the day to speak with companies and guide them towards the support schemes best suited to their needs. They will also lead several sessions and workshops:

  • Innovation at the heart of construction, with testimonies from companies active in innovation that have benefited from Luxinnovation's support in their business development
  • Industrialising construction: materials, flows, carbon and value, which will review the Interreg study on off-site construction and present companies' experience of the subject across different materials
  • Wood and new requirements: traceability, safety and performance, which will address the needs expressed by the wood industry

"The construction sector faces several challenges and innovation players are there to help companies meet them," says Perla El Boueiz. "Our role is to guide players towards the right partners, as well as towards the state aid and European funding that meet their needs."
