Eurostars: call for international R&D projects

Until 19 March 2026, Luxembourg companies are invited to apply for this funding programme supporting cross-border research and development initiatives.

Until 19 March 2026, Luxembourg-based companies can apply for the first Eurostars call for projects of 2026. This international programme, co-funded by the European Union under Horizon Europe, supports collaborative research and development (R&D) projects driven by innovative businesses. Luxinnovation, the national contact point, assists applicants throughout the process and is organising an information webinar on 26 January.

What is the Eurostars programme?

Eurostars is the world’s leading R&D funding programme for SMEs, supporting the development of innovative products, processes and services with strong commercial potential. It finances international R&D projects led by an SME or start-up based in a participating country or region.

Each project is carried out by a consortium that must include at least one additional independent partner from another participating country. Companies of any size, as well as other organisations, may join the consortium as partners, though only SMEs or start-ups can take the lead.

Funding is provided jointly by national funding bodies and the European Commission. In Luxembourg, the Ministry of the Economy defines the available budget, funding rates per company type and eligible activities, in line with national regulations.

The first call of the year has been open since 16 January 2026 and will close on 19 March at 12:00 (noon).

Who can apply and which projects are eligible?

Eurostars programme supports projects aimed at commercialising innovative products, processes or services across a wide range of sectors, including information technology, health, industry and energy.

The eligibility criteria include:

  • The consortium leader must be an SME or start-up based in a participating country or region,
  • The consortium must include at least one independent partner from another participating country,
  • Large companies may take part as partners, but not as consortium leaders,
  • Partners may be of any type, including companies, research centres and universities.
