The project that unites the players of the Greater Region with the aim of accelerating the ecological transition is gathering momentum, with tangible progress expected in the coming weeks.
The 2025 edition of the Greentech Solutions Summit, held on 25 September at the Environmental Campus in Birkenfeld (Germany), marked the first anniversary of the launch of the Greater Green+ project, which took place in Luxembourg in September 2024.
This European initiative, supported by the European Commission through the Interreg Greater Region 2021–2027 programme, aims to position the Greater Region as a leader in the ecological transition, serving the circular economy and sustainable development. With an overall budget of €6.5 million, the project is structured around five core themes: clean energy, sustainable construction and renovation, recycling technologies, water and the environment, and the bioeconomy. It brings together 11 funding partners and 19 methodological partners.
This year’s summit also gave a Luxembourg company its moment in the spotlight: H2O Vortex was recognised by the jury of the inaugural GreenTech Solutions Awards (which included representatives from LIST, LSC Engineering Group and CRTI-B) in the Water & Environment category.
The company, which specialises in water treatment, has developed the patented VPT (Vortex Process Technology), a process that creates a powerful vortex in liquids, generating high pressure gradients with extremely low central pressure. This technology improves the quality of industrial water — without chemicals, filters or additional energy — reducing environmental impact and operating costs while extending equipment lifespan.
One of the flagship outcomes of the Greater Green+ project is the creation of an online information and networking platform dedicated to greentechs. The sectoral mapping tools developed by Luxinnovation served as the basis for this initiative.
“The aim is to bring together the roughly 800 green technologies identified across the Greater Region in one place and to provide businesses and individuals with a targeted search tool,” explains Caroline Holz, Project Engineer at Luxinnovation. The service provider tasked with managing this platform will be announced in early October.

Beyond its search capabilities, the platform will host events, training sessions and a knowledge centre that will provide updates on market trends, best practices and news. It will also feature a community section where stakeholders can collaborate and discuss current or upcoming projects.
By showcasing the Greater Region’s greentech offer and sustainable innovations, the platform will foster cross-border collaborative projects, accelerate the transfer of green technologies supporting the circular economy and help attract skilled talent. “By stimulating innovation in this way, the Greater Region is positioning itself as a European centre of excellence in sustainable technologies,” points out Ms Holz.
Greater Green+ also organises ideation workshops that bring together players from across the Greater Region. The goal is to generate as many ideas as possible and transform them into concrete collaborative projects. To date, four such workshops have been held, focusing on water reuse, the circular economy of batteries and carbon-free steel in the automotive sector.
“About ten ideas have been developed so far, and some are already in the acceleration phase,” Ms Holz reports.
The next event, “BIMLux and Sustainable Construction for Resilient Cities”, will take place in Luxembourg on 12–13 November and will feature a workshop dedicated to off-site construction. It will be followed by a more advanced session on 10 December, bringing together Greater Region experts and participants interested in setting up R&D projects at a regional or even European level.
A dedicated study on off-site construction is also underway with Hors-Site Conseil, a France-based consultancy, to identify regulatory levers and obstacles that could boost the sector across the Greater Region. The results are expected in early 2026.
“As a partner of Greater Green+, Luxinnovation’s role is to connect interested companies with a network that supports the growth and development of greentech and to assist solution providers with innovation, digitalisation and partner search,” mentions Ms Holz.
The expertise of Luxembourg’s national innovation agency has already made it possible to map sustainability facilitators, providing a foundation for the development of the networking platform currently underway.
The next editions of the Greentech Solutions Summit will take place in Belgium (2026) and France (2027).
