Industry and mobility of the future: New call for R&D projects

The Ministry of the Economy aims to enhance Luxembourg’s competitiveness, resilience and economic sovereignty.

19/05/2026

This is the first call for R&D projects exclusively targeting companies, as part of the government’s strategy to strengthen the country’s industrial base, encourage the adoption of advanced digital technologies, and facilitate the large-scale development of sustainable and digital industrial solutions.

Strengthening industrial innovation

Eligible projects are expected to contribute to the development of new products and services, adapt existing offerings for new markets or sectors, or transform production processes and value chains towards smarter, more automated, flexible, sustainable and resilient systems. The initiative seeks to support innovations with significant economic and technological potential while fostering the generation of new scientific and technical knowledge.

The call prioritises five thematic areas:

  • Smart and predictive sensors
  • Advanced automotive software and smart mobility
  • Durable and/or lightweight materials
  • Resilient and sovereign supply chains
  • Industrial processes optimised by artificial intelligence in an Industry 4.0 framework

These themes were selected to address the strategic needs of Luxembourg’s economy and to bolster future-ready technological capabilities.

Funding terms

The selection process for this call is competitive and adheres to Article 21 of the Law of 6 June 2025 on the promotion of research, development and innovation. A dedicated budget has been allocated for this purpose.

Should the number of eligible projects exceed the available budget, projects will be ranked and selected accordingly until the budget is exhausted. Projects that fall below the funding threshold will not be retained. If the budget allows, up to 90% of eligible projects may be selected based on their ranking.

Projects must focus on industrial research and/or experimental development and span a duration of 24 to 36 months.

The total budget for this call is €15 million. The Ministry of the Economy may co-finance selected projects with up to €2 million per project. The level of funding will depend on the company’s size and the nature of the project. Additional bonuses are available for collaborations with public research institutes or between companies, provided the conditions are met. Public aid cannot exceed 80% of eligible costs.

Submission of applications

The call is open to companies of all sizes, including start-ups, SMEs and large enterprises, from 15 May to 31 July. Applications must be submitted via the MyGuichet platform, along with the full proposal, financial annexes and required documentation.

The Ministry of the Economy will evaluate the projects between August and November, with decisions communicated by the end of November at the latest.

Further details on eligibility criteria, participation requirements and evaluation criteria are available on Guichet.lu.

A webinar will take place in mid-June to explain the objectives of the call, provide guidance on preparing applications, and include a Q&A session.

Information and registration details will follow.
