AI policy watch

The European Union and its member states, including Luxembourg, are developing comprehensive frameworks of policies and guidelines to ensure that artificial intelligence serve people, society and democratic values. These acts aim to promote innovation while safeguarding fundamental rights, security and ethical standards.

This section aims to help national stakeholders understand the European Union’s agenda and priorities and grasp the plans’ full significance, identify strategic opportunities and align their activities with Europe’s ambitions.

Among Europe’s most significant policy texts on artificial intelligence is the AI Act, designed to ensure that AI develops in line with European values and fundamental rights.

AI Act: Europe sets the global standard for trustworthy AI

In 2024, the European Union adopted the AI Act, the world’s first comprehensive legal framework for artificial intelligence. The regulation establishes clear rules for the development, deployment, and use of AI systems, ensuring that innovation in Europe is both safe and human-centric. The AI Act introduces a risk-based approach, setting obligations that scale with the potential impact of AI applications.

By addressing issues such as transparency, accountability, and fundamental rights protection, the Act provides legal certainty for businesses and safeguards for citizens. As AI continues to transform economies and societies, the AI Act positions Europe at the forefront of shaping a fair, ethical, and globally influential AI governance model.

Below you will find a timeline of Luxembourg and EU priorities for the next years.
