Klimapakt fir Betriber: for an efficient energy transition

The 3rd Klimapakt fir Betriber Day highlighted the support available for companies undertaking energy transition and decarbonisation.

Decarbonising its activity while improving performance; benefiting from operational and financial support to carry out an energy transition process: more than ever, companies need to commit to reducing their carbon footprint to combine performance and sustainability.

This is why the Klimapakt fir Betriber initiative was designed at the initiative of the Luxembourg government (Ministry of the Economy and Ministry of the Environment, Climate and Biodiversity), with the participation of Klima-Agence and Luxinnovation. The objective of this climate pact for companies is to support them in terms of decarbonisation and energy transition through a structured and coordinated approach facilitating the use of the various initiatives, programmes, support measures and financial aid.

Competitiveness and sustainability are closely linked, and solutions can be implemented through innovation. Mario Grotz, CEO of Luxinnovation.

This is also why the Klimapakt fir Betriber Day, held on Wednesday 24 June, was a success despite the high temperatures. More than a hundred participants from the public and private sectors attended the workshops and conferences that punctuated the afternoon.

An overview of the tools and support available for the energy transition

Interactive workshops led by the Luxinnovation teams provided an opportunity to detail the public aid available to finance the energy transition, how to establish a carbon footprint and how to implement the Fit 4 Sustainability programme.

We are focusing on intensifying the initiative and fostering ever closer cooperation between all partners. Fern Faber, Director of Klima-Agence

Participants were also able to obtain information on electricity sharing and the steps needed to make the most of energy surpluses, as well as the integration of water and biodiversity management into business practices. They were also able to see first-hand how a carbon footprint can be used as a strategic management tool, alongside digital solutions for decarbonisation roadmaps.

Innovation for competitiveness

"Innovation is not a luxury. Competitiveness and sustainability are closely linked, and solutions can be implemented through innovation. It is in this dynamic that Klima-Agence and Luxinnovation are working within this climate pact for companies, in order to offer tools that are accessible to all types of companies," explained Mario Grotz, CEO of Luxinnovation, during the closing plenary session.

The Director of Klima-Agence, Fern Faber, stressed the importance of a collaborative approach. "It is essential to be able to build on past experiences, whether those of companies or interactions with public administrations. As the network continues to grow, we are focusing on intensifying the initiative and fostering ever closer cooperation between all partners."

Luxembourg Transition Platform: monitoring decarbonisation in real time

Among the developments and new features presented during this special day, the Luxembourg Transition Platform digital tool will now allow companies to analyse and monitor the progress made in their decarbonisation efforts. It provides a clear and simplified view of the actions undertaken and makes it possible to measure results and the impact of improvement measures implemented.

This tool is being developed in close collaboration with the Arbeitsgemeinschaft Mittelstandsinitiative in Germany and the relevant trade chambers, with the aim of promoting harmonised data collection and supporting companies in their transition processes.

The process also now rests on a voluntary commitment on the part of companies towards decarbonisation, accompanied by a personalised pathway adapted to their specific needs. This support is provided by "Transition Referents", in partnership with the professional chambers, to facilitate the development and implementation of their transition procedures.

CCUS / CDR: a new mapping by Luxinnovation

"In this approach, gains can be measured in the short term through personalised monitoring of consumption, easier access to the various existing support measures, energy savings and a reduction in operational costs. In the long term, the approach supports the definition of a genuine strategy and enables the impact of investments and measures to be tracked. This can only strengthen the resilience and competitiveness of companies," explained Samuel Gillessen, head of the Enterprises department at Klima-Agence.

This Klimapakt fir Betriber Day was also an opportunity to present Luxinnovation's new mapping dedicated to carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS) and carbon dioxide removal (CDR) solutions — increasingly recognised as essential tools to support climate neutrality, particularly to address residual emissions from sectors that are difficult to decarbonise.

"This mapping makes the ecosystem more legible and facilitates connections between players," said Samira Bouzid, Junior Market Intelligence Analyst at Luxinnovation.
