The major event for innovation and sustainable development of the wood sector in the Greater Region will take place on 6 May in Luxembourg.
In response to climate challenges and the urgent need to transition to more sustainable models, local wood and bio-based materials are becoming strategic drivers of change. Rethinking our relationship with natural resources and building a more resilient future: this is the central theme of the 2025 edition of the Wood Cluster Forum, organised by Luxinnovation on 6 May 2025 at the IFSB in Bettembourg.
This flagship event, focused on innovation and sustainable development in the wood sector across the Greater Region, is part of the W.A.V.E. (Wood Added Value Enablers) project. Supported by the European Union under the Interreg Greater Region 2021-2027 programme, W.A.V.E. promotes the development of a high-performing local wood industry, founded on cross-border cooperation and joint strategies.
The 2025 Wood Cluster Forum Greater Region | Interreg W.A.V.E. will bring together a wide range of stakeholders involved in shaping the future of wood – from forest managers and architects to design firms, public institutions, and providers of innovative solutions.
“Over 1,500 companies are directly or indirectly linked to the wood value chain in Luxembourg,” says Ralf Koehler, Business Relationship Manager – Luxembourg Wood Cluster at Luxinnovation, referring to the sector mapping carried out at the end of 2023. “Nearly two-thirds are small and medium-sized enterprises specialising in artisanal wood processing. Moreover, 43% of the companies listed are active in timber construction, including architects, engineers, and general contractors.”

For Luxembourg, the wood sector represents a key driver of green innovation, capable of contributing to climate targets through cross-sectoral collaboration and knowledge transfer.
“Innovation is a key lever for making the bioeconomy both profitable and sustainable,” adds Koehler. “Our aim is to ensure that wood, as a material of the future, significantly contributes to achieving carbon neutrality, creating jobs, and supporting sustainable regional development.”
The Wood Cluster Forum Greater Region | Interreg W.A.V.E. will highlight short supply chains and the latest innovations in local timber and bio-based construction materials.
Discussions with key players such as the Nature and Forest Agency (ANF), the Public Buildings Administration (ABP), and the Order of Architects and Consulting Engineers (OAI) will facilitate the exchange of expertise and the sharing of success strategies to enhance the use of regional wood and bio-based materials.
“Throughout the day, participants will explore innovative solutions to better leverage local wood and contribute to the sustainable transformation of construction and development.”
Sessions will be held in French and German, with simultaneous translation provided.
