The fourth edition of the "Luxembourg Industry and Research Capabilities for Security & Defence" catalogue lists more than 100 national entities with proven expertise in defence and security. A valuable tool for the development of the sector.
At the initiative of Luxinnovation and the Defence Directorate of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, Defence, Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade, the updated "Luxembourg Industry and Research Capabilities for Security & Defence" catalogue was presented at the last International Paris Air Show at Le Bourget.
This strategic publication is designed to enhance the visibility of Luxembourg's technological expertise in defence and to foster the integration of national stakeholders into European and transatlantic defence value chains.
"The current security situation in Europe and beyond calls for an unprecedented rearmament effort. To meet this challenge, we need a strong and innovative defence industry. Luxembourg has both the expertise and agility to play a meaningful role in this effort. This catalogue is tangible evidence of that potential", said Minister of Defence, Yuriko Backes.
The catalogue offers a snapshot of a fast-growing ecosystem. It presents more than 100 national entities – including companies, laboratories and research centres – active in high-value areas such as cybersecurity, advanced materials, space technologies and autonomous systems.
"This catalogue is a valuable resource for any organisation, in Luxembourg or abroad, seeking reliable partners in defence-related research and innovation. It reflects the growing maturity of our ecosystem and opens the door to international collaborations that deliver concrete solutions to tomorrow's security challenges", said Mario Grotz, CEO of Luxinnovation.
The rise of this technological community reflects sustained efforts to build a solid Luxembourg Defence Technological and Industrial Base. Today, this network is a trusted partner for research, innovation and procurement programmes led by the European Union and NATO.
“The first edition of this catalogue, published in 2022, featured just 46 companies and research organisations. The sharp rise in the number of participants since then shows that Luxembourg is home to outstanding technologies that can strengthen the European Union’s defence industrial and technological base more than ever,” says Alexander Link, Defence Technology and Innovation Coordinator at Luxinnovation.
Thanks to national funding as well as research, innovation, and procurement programmes from the European Union and NATO, a wide array of tools is available to help national players gain both financial support and enhanced visibility—at home and abroad. “We’re committed to building stronger synergies with the civil sector and leveraging all existing expertise to help every actor level up. This will further boost the appeal of Luxembourg’s innovation ecosystem,” explains Rebecca Damotte, Defence Innovation & Technology Advisor at Luxinnovation.
